Why this blog...

I am the mother of the three most talented, intelligent and beautiful children ever to live on this earth. I am also privileged to be married to the most wonderful man! He has added three additional talented, intelligent and beautiful children to our family! I have a job that I mostly love, a wonderful education, a beautiful home, marvelous family, and I have the privilege of belonging to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I have been greatly blessed in my life, but I sometimes forget that. So, I decided to create this blog as a way to remind myself of all the many blessings and miracles that surround me. (I'm also terrible at keeping a journal- so this will be something for my kids to enjoy as well.)

I hope you enjoy what you read. I would love to hear what you think!

Farewell to Hyrum

Hyrum has been a fun part of our lives for the past decade +. My cousin, Michelle, really a life-long best friend/ older sister, has lived in Hyrum for a long time now, and her home has a perpetual open-door policy, of which we have benefited greatly!

As Michelle prepares to finalize the sell of her house and move, to perhaps, the Salt Lake Valley, we were able to spend a couple of peaceful days as her guests once again. And Antoine was there too! (A French foreign exchange student who is most delightful!)

A wedding shower, making soap, cleaning apricots, giving Antoine English pronunciation lessons (love you, Jon, but you are NOT the one for this task!), Hyrum beach, Zumba, and green smoothies- all great fun and fond memories! But the best part, as with every visit, was the time for conversation, talking with and listening to one of my very most favorite people, Michelle!

I am so grateful to be blessed with my cousin as my friend!!

Of Con Men, Cakes, and Camping...

Camping (with the exception of Grandma Camping) is not my favorite recreational activity. I love the outdoors, love the fire, love the stars, can deal with the bugs and the dirt... but REALLY miss my climate controlled sleeping environment and running water! Yes, I know, I am spoiled! Yet this summer and the near future promises to re-introduce me to real camping... could be a good thing, right?

Plus I finished my denim quilt- will be great for camping when it's colder!

Yeah! I LOVE my current recipe for angel food cake. It's not as great as Grandma Opal's- but it turns out! Just wish I had taken a pic of the finished product after adding a blueberry/strawberry fruit sauce and whipped cream- YUM!!! Happy birthday to Luke's Dad and Mom! Too bad their birthdays are the same week- less excuse to make this again right away!

And con men... well, I have been thinking about the past year, all the lonely days, all the rotten men I have met on the Internet (who turned out to be con men through and through...). I have been so very blessed with these experiences! Life has been lonely in some ways, but in meeting and corresponding with these men, never once was I tempted to buy into any part of what they were selling. I have been blessed with so many good friends and such a great family- all of which has blessed me with the security to overcome the lonely! I was able to live with being lonely- without the heartache and various other challenges that would have occurred had I chosen to believe the falsehoods, to in essence listen to those con men. And in recognizing this great blessing, I can see how my Father in Heaven has once again taught me a valuable lesson about myself with each experience.

Life is so very beautiful when I look for the blessings!

Rules for Life!

The baby hummingbirds have flown away, summer is going by way too fast for all I want to do, and the house feels inside out!- We are in the process of reorganizing every room, getting rid of many things... it will be great when it's done, right?!

Yesterday in sacrament meeting, a good friend reminded me of just how awesome our country's founding fathers really are! Here is a small sample of the reason I feel this way:

George Washington's Seventeen Rules of Life

1) Act at all times as in the presence of God, and make it the great object in all things to please Him.
In order to do this, . . .

2) Seek first of all to gain clear views of His will and with regard to all things to be perfectly conformed to it. In doing this,

3) Cherish no thoughts, indulge no feeling, speak no words, and do no actions, but what you really think, after all the light you can gain, will most honor God, most benefit yourself and others needs, and give you the greatest joy when they come to be exhibited before the assembled universe at the judgement day.

4) Begin and end each day by a season of communion with God, and by a solemn and hearty commitment of yourself and all your interest, temporal and eternal, to His guidance, care and disposal.

5) Daily read, with deep attention and fervent prayer, a portion of the word of God, for the purpose of understanding, believing, and obeying it.

6) Never express or indulge the least degree of unkindness towards any human being, and give no needless pain to any one of the human race, or even of the animal creation.

7) Make it your object to promote the greatest happiness, on the whole, of all upon whom you may have influence, both of the present and all future generation.

8) Regard the hand of God in all the dispensations of His providence, and in whatsoever state He places you, therewith be content.

9) Envy none who are above you, and despise none who are below you: but possess and manifest the utmost goodwill towards all men.

10) Never speak to or feel towards them in a manner that you ought not to wish them, under similar circumstance, to speak to or feel with regard to you.

11) Let all statements and narrations be an exact exhibition of the real truth.

12) Act for God, for the universe, and for eternity; and in such a manner as is adapted to promote the highest good forever. In order to do this,

13) Look habitually to Jesus Christ: let your whole soul be imbued with His spirit, and manifest it in all your actions.

14) Look to the Holy Ghost as the author of all good in man; seek habitually His teaching, His illuminating and purifying influences, that He may dwell in you as His temple, and take full possession of all your powers and talents for Himself.

15) Earnestly desire that He would take of the things of Christ and more and more show them unto you; and carefully avoid everything which tends to hinder you from becoming perfectly like Him.

16) Make it as your meat and drink to do the will of God, and perseveringly have respect to all His commandments.

17) Feel and acknowledge that all the good that you ever have received, that you now receive, or ever will receive is of grace through Jesus Christ; trust in him for all which you need, both for this life and the life to come; rely on his merits, imitate his example, and in view of every blessing give him and the Father and the Holy Ghost all the glory.

I am so grateful to so many great men for their devotion to God and to doing what is right and just!

My 2 rules of life (thus far):
1. Trust in the Lord with all my heart.
2. Look for blessings in my life (they are ALWAYS there!) and thank my Father for them every day!

Planning is for Amateurs!

Life keeps making changes to the plans around here... but then again, what else is new?

Even my camera decided to not cooperate on the 4th. I meant to take some pics, but the setting was somehow on video- Then the batteries ran out! So this is the spectacularly exciting result: (just turn your head to the right for optimal viewing pleasure!)

Super exciting or what?!!! But I did have a great time in Tooele with Luke's family, then over to my parent's house for the fireworks. My little (2 yr.) great-niece asked, 'where are your kids?' When I pointed to Charly and Jon, she said, 'No, where is your Adilynne?' Ha, ha- she thinks Adilynne is my little girl! So grateful to Ardis for sharing!!

All of the planning about schedules, housing versus riding the train, money and job for Charly for college... well, life happened- now we get to start over on the planning- I must say how very grateful I am to a loving Father in Heaven who inspired my Char to hold off on making housing/job commitments. I am so glad to have yet one more event like this to show me that He really is in charge!

And I almost have one more summer project complete...
And this one is for me! My jean quilt was dying... the back piece was a very inexpensive piece of fabric that had seen better days- needed to be replaced. Many hours later, it is almost revived! and with fleece! It will be so nice this winter!
